Christian Karaoke
Spirit in song
Christian Karaoke is quickly becoming a popular genre in the industry. As contemporary Christian pop develops into a mainstream musical genre, more and more people are requesting the now well-known recorded songs.
The Karaoke industry has certainly taken notice of the popularity of Christian music. It’s easy to find tracks in all different formats so that you can sing along to them at home or on the computer. There are also collections available that feature favorite gospel and Christian songs on one disc.
Finding Christian Karaoke
If you have a home system, finding Christian Karaoke is easy. There are a variety of discs, DVDs and downloads available – from gospel to contemporary Christian pop.
If you’re looking to go out to showcase your skills, finding a welcoming place for Christian music can be difficult. Most places that feature Karaoke are bars and clubs. You’ll often find that the singing takes a back seat to the drinking at many Karaoke nights. Even if you’re comfortable going into a bar, the other patrons might not be so enthusiastic about your love of Christian music.
If you want to take your Christian Karaoke on the road, here are some tips on how to find the best venues:
- Rent a space: In Japan, the birthplace of Karaoke, singers perform in Karaoke boxes. Unlike the North American bar scene, Karaoke boxes are smaller rooms (accommodating anywhere from a small group to a large party) that groups rent out and can sing any type of songs they wish to their own private audience. There are similar places in North America, although it’ll be a little more expensive than simply going out to a Karaoke bar. For a large party, think about reserving a hall or a conference room.
- Join a Karaoke club: As Karaoke has evolved from a ‘bar night’ novelty to a popular hobby, non-alcoholic and family friendly clubs have opened. Look around your community and you’ll probably find a club or group that features Karaoke nights that welcome Christian music in a safe and friendly atmosphere.
- Check with your church: A lot of churches are using Karaoke nights as a way of fundraising. Some will even have regular weekly nights where you can get together with other church members and enjoy some good music and fun. If your church doesn’t have a club, why not organize one? You’ll be surprised to find just how many other people enjoy singing Karaoke to their favorite songs!
