Karaoke Revolution
How’s your pitch?
If you’re more of a shower songster then an exhibitionist you’ll get a kick out of Karaoke Revolution - a game for both Play Station and Xbox gaming systems. It’s an exciting new way to sing all your favorite songs at home and it can be played individually or as a head to head competition.
The Game
Karaoke Revolution lets you sing your heart out to a crowd of (sometimes) adoring fans. More than simply singing along to a bunch of word graphics, you get to choose your performance icon (there’s about eight characters to choose from, all of whom have a number of different outfits to wear) and put on a real show.
You can choose all different kinds of settings, from a house party to an all out stadium performance. After you’ve selected the look of your show and the song you’ll sing, you’ll be guided through your performance with scrolling lyrics and a set of bars that indicate the pitch and length of the note you’re trying to reach.
There are three levels to the game: easy, moderate and hard. As you choose the harder levels you’ll be judged more closely on your performance. The judging is what makes Karaoke Revolution a real game; the better you do at matching the pitch and timing of the song the better the crowd’s reaction. There’s a meter that shows you how well you’re matching the expectations of the song. If you’re doing really well you’ll see all kinds of crowd reaction and special effects like fireworks and your name scrolling across the stage in lights. If you’re failing too miserably, you’ll get booed right off of the stage!
A Long Line of Revolutions
After the first Karaoke Revolution proved itself to be one of the best selling games for Play Station the real revolution began. The game caught on like wildfire and all different types of gamers are singing along.
Since the first game was released in 2003 there have been a number of upgrades and re-releases (KR 2 in 2004; KR 3 in 2004; KR Party in 2005; KR American Idol in 2006; KR Country in 2006). Each game brought out new songs, improved graphics and scoring systems and more difficult competitions. With all the choice you have for songs and styles, all you have to do is hook up your mic (which can be bought individually or as part of a Karaoke Revolution package) and show your stuff!
