Karaoke Mixers

A professional sound

If you’re looking to put together the ultimate home system, you’re going to need a Karaoke mixer. A mixer (also called a soundboard) combines and changes the level or tone of the sound coming from your system. Mixers can be used to adjust the sound levels of the instrumental tracks and the microphones, or combine the signals coming from two microphones for a professional sounding duet.

Adding a mixer to your system will increase the professional appearance and sound of your performances. You can add all kinds of effects and even adjust the pitch of that not-quite-in-tune singer! The mixer digitally processes the audio signals that are coming from both the player and the microphone and combines them into a smooth track that comes out of any speaker like it was coming out of a recording studio.

Awesome Effects

You can use a Karaoke mixer for a lot more than just mixing. Some of the more elaborate mixers allow you to add a variety of effects to your performance, including:

  • Echo
  • Delay
  • Repeat
  • Reverb
  • Hold
  • Chorus
  • Tremolo
  • Exciter
  • Cross Fader
  • Vocal Tonal Enhancement
  • Voice Cancel (to remove any pre-recorded vocal tracks) or Vocal Eliminator (removes vocals from regular recordings)
  • Sound Effects (i.e. audience sounds)

How Do You Choose?

A quick internet search reveals the hundreds of choices you have when it comes to purchasing a Karaoke mixer. Some systems will come with a mixer included. This reduces your options but it’ll probably be the one that works best with your system.

If you’re shopping for a Karaoke mixer you’ll find the price range staggering. You can pick up a simple mixer for around $100, but you’ll also find options running into the thousands of dollars. Which one you choose all depends on what you want to do with it.

If all you want is a little more control over the volume of your tracks, you can safely purchase one of the cheaper mixers and get exactly what you want out of it. On the other hand, if you’re looking to record your performances or put on a show in front of crowd you might want to look at the more expensive options. Ask yourself:

  • What do I want the mixer to do for my sound?
  • Do I want to add effects?
  • Do I need duet capabilities? How many different tracks will I need to combine?
  • How much will the Karaoke mixer change my performance?
